DavidandMelanie Beelen wrote a sympathy message

“Herschell lived his life with integrity and so much grace. He is one of the “ unsung heroes “ in my life. During the late sixties,, Herschell as the founder of Baxter Community Center used his artistic sensibilities to create a sketch of two men pulling a large rock. One of them was white the other black. The rock represented racism. This sketch became a symbol and flyer for what the work of Baxter was all about and the foundation for what Baxter would become. I love this dear man!”
