He was predeceased by: his former wife Marilyn Van Ess; his son-in-law Kevin Faulk; and his sisters, Lenore Kniff and Norma Peterson. He is survived by: his friend Jim; his wife Marilyn "Mare" Jonker; his children, James "Toby" Van Ess (Jodi) and Lori Van Ess-Faulk; his grandchildren, Kaley Laug (Travis), Kody Faulk (Kara), Cassidy Akubu (Dan) and Christian Van Ess (Savanna); and his great grandchildren, Piper, Mack, Zane and James. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
