He was predeceased by : his parents, Tom Kinney and Agnes Kinney; his sister Rose Marie; and his sister-in-law Marjorie Robach. He is survived by : his wife Mary Ellen Kinney (Robach); his children, Jean Wahlfield (Mike), Cathy Cartwright (Jeff), Patricia Kinney, Teresa Kinney, John Kinney Jr. (Pamela) and Mary Carlson (Mark); his grandchildren, Amy Wahlfield, Kelly Wahlfield, Andrew Wahlfield (Deanna), John Cartwright (Jen), Dan Cartwright (Brooke), Michael Cartwright (Eileen), Shawn Gent (Gina), Brady Gent, Jacob Gent, Erin Hayhow (David), Monica Mulder (Kevin), John Reilley Kinney (Brittany), Chelsea Lucksted (Josh), Zachary Carlson and Madyson Carlson; his sister Mary E. Heffron; and his brother-in-law Eugene Robach. He is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Monday, April 22nd 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, April 23rd 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A rosary was held on Monday, April 22nd 2024 at 8:00 PM at the Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary (3525 Remembrance Rd NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49534). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, April 23rd 2024 at 11:00 AM at the St. Anthony of Padua Church (2510 Richmond St NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504).

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Church or the Carmelite Monastery, Ada, MI.
