He was predeceased by: his daughter-in-law Amber VandenBerg; his brother Don VandenBerg; and his brother-in-law Joe Zalewski. He is survived by: his wife Sue; his children, Rob VandenBerg, Julie Tripp, Shari Hansen (Steve) and Mike VandenBerg (Elizabeth); his brothers, Tom VandenBerg (Joyce) and Bill VandenBerg (Ann); and his sisters-in-law, Judy VandenBerg, Ruth Zalewski and Cindy Alofs. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 8 grandchildren-in-law; 6 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday, October 9th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Stroo Funeral Home (1095 68th St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 9th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In Butch's honor, the family has requested memorial contributions to go to Tunnels to Towers, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
