With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Maynard VanderStel of Grand Rapids, Michigan, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Maynard left this world on March 2, 2026 at the age of 91, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Bert Stel and Mabel Vander Stel; his siblings, Marion Landis (Lee), Dorothy Boss, Robert Vander Stel, Coral Sluiter (James), John Vander Stel (Mildred), Louis Vander Stel (Polly), Marjorie Corson (Fred) and Norman Vander Stel; and his siblings-in-law, Rex Stutzman, Harold, Jean Leep and Simon Van Dyken.
He is survived by: his wife Arva Vander Stel (Vander Markt); his children, Kathy Vander Stel, Gary Vander Stel (Mary), Sharon Heersema (Rick) and Carol Postma (Ed); his grandchildren, Mark Vander Stel (Kayla), Casey Vander Stel, Tessa Vander Stel, Carissa Eisfelder (Jordan), James Heersema (Emma), Aubrey Heersema, Megan Postma, Elizabeth Blesh (David) and Carly Norris (Lincoln); his sister June Stutzman; and his sisters-in-law, Connie Vander Stel and Lois Van Dyken. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, March 6th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, March 7th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at the Dutton United Reformed Church (6950 Hanna Lake Ave SE, Caledonia, MI 49316). A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 7th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
Memorial contributions may be made to the tuition assistance funds at Dutton Christian School or South Christian High School.
