He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Nicholas Lanning and Lenore Lanning; his siblings, Richard Lanning and Elizabeth Vladika; and his brother-in-law Dr. Robert VanNoord.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon; his children, Nick Lanning (Diana), Ray Lanning (Jeannine) and Frances Mohney (Tim); his grandchildren, Jessica Enaohwo (Oro), Rachel Cimek, James Slagter (Katie), Emma Lanning, Olivia Mohney, Jacqueline Lanning and Nicole Mohney; his sister Mary Polonowski (Chuck); and his sister-in-law Sally VanNoord. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Nick's memory to The Potter's House or Pine Rest Foundation.
