He was predeceased by : his sister Kristine Farmer. He is survived by : his parents, Richard Houten and Kay Van Houten (Bok); his wife Laurie; his son Jonathan; and his brother Richard, Jr. (Beth). He is also survived by loving in-laws, nieces, nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or the Forest Hills Education Foundation.
