He was predeceased by: his wife Naomi; his parents, Earl and Margaret; and his brother Donald. He is survived by: his children, Susan McDowell (Ron), Robert Samuels Jr. (Jane), Patricia VanDyke (Cheryl) of Joseph Samuels, L. V., Mary Barnes and Michael Samuels (Elizabeth). He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Kent County Honor Guard.
