It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Shelley Lynn VanDyke (Grand Rapids, Michigan), who passed away on July 1, 2025, at the age of 69, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, George Hiemstra and Maxine Hiemstra; her father-in-law Albert VanDyke; and her niece Rebecca Hiemstra. She is survived by: her husband Randy; her sons, Bob VanDyke (Jen) and Nick VanDyke (Gus Schissler); and her siblings, Bruce Hiemstra (Loris), Brian Hiemstra (Ruth) and Sharon Hiemstra (Eric Craymer).

“Shelley was one of the Yucca Blossom regulars, who you immediately liked . She was always ready to help, if she needed your 2 cents about color to paint the walls,, she made it a wine drinking, eating sweets with lots of laughter, some tears, and a promise of "let's do this again!" Shelley played hard, talking about trails, hikes and places she and Randy would someday explore; I would listen, think about when I did intense playing in the outdoors. She understood people met them where they were”

“Reading Shelley’s passing is such a shock, I’m sure this is so devastating to the Van Dyke and Hiemstra families, and so many who knew her. I knew Shelley my entire life. Her Dad George was my Dad Garry’s best lifelong friend, they were baptized together. Over our lives, Shelley’s path crossed mine many times: thru our families, our careers, and church. She was an exceptional woman. Smart, funny, kind. A woman of faith. My condolences to everyone. I know she will be GREATLY missed.”
