He was predeceased by: his parents, Freeman J VanHaften and Irene VanHaften; his brother Dan VanHaften (Arlene); and his son Thomas R VanHaften. He is survived by: his wife Ruth; his siblings, Dick VanHaften (Rose) and Sally Hendricks (Tom); and his sisters-in-law, Jeanne Roosien and Ruth Roosien. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and several dear friends.
