It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Velma Barbachyn of Grand Rapids, Michigan, who passed away on January 24, 2025, at the age of 88, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Velma Barbachyn to pay them a last tribute.
She was predeceased by: her parents, James Porter and Hazel Porter; her siblings, Arlene, Sally, Wilma and Frank; and her grandmother Frye.
She is survived by: her brothers, Albert and Richard; her husband Bob; her children, Mike (Cheri), Nancy (Dana) and David (Karen); her grandchildren, Sarah (Ben), Steven, Eric, Heidi (Mitch), Carolyn (Kevin), Tyler (Bree), Adam (Erin), Laura (Anthony) and Joshua (Alex); her close friend Harriet Alberda; and her caregivers, Karla and Bobbi Jo. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
If not for the Covid Pandemic, there would have been a third family trip to Mexico.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
