He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Mathis and Ludell Mathis; his son Daryl Allen Mathis; his sisters, Alice Louise Coleman, Lorine Mathis Smith and Mildred Ann Franklin; and his daughter-in-law Juanita Mae Mathis.
He is survived by: his brother Dr. Ralph Mathis; his caregiver Harper Hospital; his daughter Melissa; his wife Patricia Elizabeth Mathis; his children, Walter Lee Mathis Jr. and Dr. Tracy Elaine Blount (Eugene); his grandchildren, Daryl Mathis, Ashleigh Mathis, Hezekiah Mathis and Mijha Rameriez; his great grandchild Royal Mathis; his sisters, Christine Herron and Catherine White (James); his niece Kimberly Schaefer; Rita (Walt) and Patsy. He is also survived by Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins complete his family.
