He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul J. Hettinger and Dorothy Mae Hettinger (Splane); and his significant other Pati Newton. He is survived by: his son Michael Hettinger, Jr. (Monica); his grandchildren, Nicholas Anthony (Kayla), Matthew Anthony, Alexander Hettinger and Mikayla Hettinger; his stepchildren, Dawn Warner (Greg) and Adam Jameson; his siblings, Thomas Hettinger and Patty Sutliff (Budd); and his siblings' children, Tara Sutliff and Jason Sutliff (Usha).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to support Veterans organizations.
