He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul J. Hettinger and Dorothy Mae Hettinger (Splane); and his significant other Pati Newton. He is survived by: his son Michael Hettinger, Jr. (Monica); his grandchildren, Nicholas Anthony (Kayla), Matthew Anthony, Alexander Hettinger and Mikayla Hettinger; his stepchildren, Dawn Warner (Greg) and Adam Jameson; his siblings, Thomas Hettinger and Patty Sutliff (Budd); his niece Tara Sutliff; and his nephew Jason Sutliff (Usha).
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 2nd 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Smith Family Funeral Homes (104 E Cass St, St Johns, MI 48879). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 3rd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Tuesday, June 3rd 2025 at the Mt. Rest Cemetery (706 E Steel St, St Johns, MI 48879).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to support Veterans organizations.
