He was predeceased by: his brother Richard William Champion. He is survived by: his wife Deborah Thelen Champion; his son Michael Dwyer Champion (Mickey); his stepsons, Bradley Logan Abernathy (Ella) and Scott Abernathy Miller; his siblings, Robert Wood Champion (Sarah Fisher Champion), Sara Stewart Champion, Catherine Wood Champion (Kevin Killebrew), Anne Champion Johnson and James Reed Champion (Chaya Grace Champion); and his pets, Puff, Rory and Puck. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He volunteered extensively, serving as President of Services for Older Citizens (The Helm), The Players Club, and on the board of the Bayview Yacht Club Foundation.
