He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerald and Helen (Cahill); his former wife Marguerite Ann McGrail; and his sons, John and Chris.
He is survived by: his siblings, Geraldine, John and Gene; his wife Shirley Smith; his children, Mary Rooney, Nancy Rooney (John Anderson), Meg Rooney Lapinski (Greg) and Bill Rooney (Laura); his daughter-in-law Ellen Rooney; his grandchildren, Willie, Molly, Maggie, Katie Lapinski, John, Ben, Katie Anderson, Emma, Elizabeth Rooney, Brendan and Clare Rooney; his great grandchildren, Theodore, Nora and Jack; his siblings-in-law, Jack McGrail (Susan) and Kathy Rooney; and his stepson Jim Reifsnyder-Smith (Frank). He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
