He is survived by: his wife Rita Avery; his children, Deborah Halleck (James), Donald Calnen, Bryan Calnen (Tracey) and Matthew Calnen (Nancy); his grandchildren, Christina Baragar (Chad), Jacob Washburne (Lily), Avery Ellis (Aaron), Stone Calnen, James Calnen and Edward Calnen; his great grandchildren, Robbie, Declan, Felicity Baragar and Violet Washburne; and his sister Janet Smith (Patrick).

Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday, September 11th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A rosary was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at 7:30 PM at the Schiller Funeral Home (5505 M-119, Harbor Springs, MI 49740). A funeral Mass was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Holy Childhood Catholic Church (150 W Main St, Harbor Springs, MI 49740).
