He was predeceased by: his parents, James Harten and Lillian Harten; his brothers, James, Dave and Larry Harten; his parents-in-law, Red and Joann Purcell; his brother-in-law Bernie Purcell; and his nephew Timmy Purcell.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Purcell; his children, Gerald A. Harten and Jennifer Ivey; his siblings, Sharon Stein and Jack Harten; his brother-in-law Tom Purcell; his daughter-in-law Shawn King-Harten; his nephew Bill Masching; and his niece Kris Purcell. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild.
