He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Nicholas Shields and Flossie Shields (Ludlum); his sister Liz Kitter; and his siblings-in-law, Gary Kitter, Ed Jungnitsch, Kathryn Jungnitsch, Allen Houghten and Floyd Flinn.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Shields (Jungnitsch); his children, Debbie Letts (John) of Hemlock, Kim Quackenbush (Ken) of Freeland and Ed Shields (Karen) of Hemlock; his grandchildren, John Letts, Jr., Julia Letts, Nicholas Shields, Stephen Shields, Lilly Shields-Jaksa (Brandon Jaksa), Jack Quackenbush and Ryan Quackenbush; his great grandchild Hudson Letts; his sister Ruth Ann Houghten of Walsenburg, CO; and his sister-in-law Marlene Flinn of South Ogden, UT..
Visitation was held on Friday, July 11th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, July 12th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A rosary was held on Friday, July 11th 2025 from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors (201 N Miller Rd, Saginaw, MI 48609). A funeral service was held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Mary Catholic Church (151 St Marys Dr, Hemlock, MI 48626). A burial was held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at the Saint Marys Cemetery (151 St Marys Dr, Hemlock, MI 48626).
Following the service interment will take place in St. Mary Cemetery in Hemlock, where military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the V.F.W. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a charity of the donor's choice.
