He was predeceased by: his parents, George Van Kula Jr. and Marion Michele Gallaudet Willison; his stepfather Robert Willison; and his brother-in-law Rex Owens. He is survived by: his son Ian Van Kula; his grandson Quentin Van Kula; and his siblings, George Van Kula III (Cathy), David Van Kula (Marlo), Susan Owens and Katy Slater (Todd). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
