He was predeceased by: his father Harold Pagel; his brothers, Mark and Brian Pagel; and his siblings-in-law, Elmer, William McNutt and Jacqueline Sexton.

He is survived by: his mother Phyllis Pagel (Mersino); his wife Kay; his children, Amanda McKenzie (Scott) and Chad Pagel (Angela); his grandchildren, Avery, Gideon Pagel, Gordon, Cora and Miles McKenzie; his sister Karen Riling (Jim); and his sisters-in-law, Nona McNutt (Lewis) and Julia McNutt. He is also survived by nieces, nephews.
