He was predeceased by : his aunt Lindsey Chinn. He is survived by : his parents, Jennifer Lynn Strickland Zapolnik and Anthony "Tony" Robert Zapolnik of Hopkins; his grandparents, Alan Strickland (Evanel), Lea Dianne Strickland, Robert "Bob" and Brenda Zapolnik; and his siblings, Merek Zapolnik, Jensen Zapolnik and Avalee Zapolnik. He is also survived by several uncles, aunts, and cousins.

A GoFundMe memorial fundraiser has been established to assist baby James' parents in meeting their financial obligations. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family via GoFundMe, Venmo or PayPal.
