He was predeceased by: his parents, Roscoe Bates and Sarah "Evelyn" Bates (Wolf); his wife Marjorie; and his sister Jeanne. He is survived by: his children, Chuck Bates, Marc Bates (Tracy), Cathi Bates, Danielle Thompson (Clarke), Carolyn McGahey (Jeff) and Terri Burton; his grandchildren, Philip, Lukas, Richard, Maggie, Morgan, Mikayla, Madison, Mallory, Tyler, Tony, Bailey, Spencer and Kennedi; his sister Marva Jane; and his brother-in-law Ray. He is also survived by 3 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and extended family.
