He was predeceased by : his parents, Myrtle Barkley and Merritt Barkley; his siblings-in-law, Evelyn and Lewis Wixon (Doris); his siblings, Loren Barkley and Doris Brinkley; and his brothers-in-law, Gordon Parker and Michael Wixon.

He is survived by : his wife Reay Lynn Barkley (Wixon); his child Drs; his grandchildren, Daniel Barkley (Allison), Brian Barkley (Jessica Messerschmidt), Laura Ward (Andrew), Eric Barkley (Jaimi), Katie Barkley (Nick Bedbury), Sean Barkley, Tom Gable (Josie), Jess Fana (Michael) and Anna Gable; his sister Ellen Parker; his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Barkley and Sandy Wixon; and his caregivers, Karla, Brenda, Inez, Andrea, Crystal and Kim. He is also survived by eleven great grandchildren.
