He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry "Butch" Deters and Bernis Deters; his grandmother-in-law Floyd Hettinga; and his stepsiblings, Tim Grant and Cheryl Grant.
He is survived by: his wife Jan Deters; his children, Lauryn VanderVeen (Caleb), Olivia Deters (Alden Brantley) and Harrison Deters (Kerstin); his grandchildren, Jobe, Laiyla, Freija, William, Astrid, Brynnlee and Ingrid; his sister Denise Smith (Rick); his mother-in-law Laura Hettinga; his stepfather Lew Grant; and his sisters-in-law, Linda Sheler, Deb Starett and Sherry Grant Slabaugh. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
