Virginia Rose Holmgren Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Virginia Rose Holmgren of Ishpeming, Michigan, who passed away on November 4, 2025, at the age of 97, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Patrick Lyons and Verna Lyons (Oikari); her husband Paul Holmgren; her brothers, Charles and James Lyons; her grandson Daniel Carlson; and her sons-in-law, John Luoma and Thomas Cody.
She is survived by: her children, Paul "Hummer" Holmgren (Lorrie), Barbara Bakalarski (Alan), Beverly Luoma, Debra Carlson (Steven), Suzanne Shaffer (Richard) and Linda Wells; and her sister Patricia LaFreniere. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Visitation was held on Monday, November 10th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church (1889 Prairie Ave, Ishpeming, MI 49849). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, November 10th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location. A reception was held on Monday, November 10th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Church or to the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter (UPAWS) at upaws.org in memory of Virginia.
