He was predeceased by: his parents, Lydia Josephine (Seppanen) and Werner William Lahtela; his wife Judy; his siblings, Dorothy Halonen-Cox, Della Monett and Albert Lahtela; his parents-in-law, William and Inga Oja; his siblings-in-law, Gordon Halonen, Wally Monett, Jerry Oja, Richard Oja, Harry Williams, Chas Prusi, Helen Lahtela, Shirley Monett, Margaret Oja, Charlotte Oja and Virginia Prusi; his nephews, Brent Monett and Matthew Lahtela; and his niece Kari Lahtela.
He is survived by: his daughters, Sara Lakanen (Edward) and Susan Beyer (Kurt); his grandchildren, Jared Lakanen (Samantha Williams), Daniel Lakanen (Vanessa), Josie Winkler (Dakota), Jenna Dooley (Ryan), Lydia Merline (James) and Max Beyer (Madison Johnson); his siblings-in-law, Sarah Williams and Ken Oja (Theresa); and his nephews, Jeff Halonen, Mark Monett (Barb) and Clint Monett (Kathy).
Visitation was held on Friday, May 1st 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Hope Free Evangelical Lutheran Church (795 S North Lake Dr, Ishpeming, MI 49849). A funeral service was held on Friday, May 1st 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
