He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Lee Thomas Sr. and Nettie Norris; his brothers, Joseph Lee Thomas Jr., Henry Green Thomas (Annie May Bicy), Jesse Thomas of Benjamin, Thomas (Gladys Thomas) and Lou Ella Thomas (Flossie Thomas); and his close friend Doris Baltimore.

He is survived by: his children, Relda Cobb, Harold Buzzy, Thomas, Eugene Thomas Jr., Ishmael Muhammad and Kofi; and his grandchildren, Darren Moore, Timmara Tanner, Tearra Tanner, Khalfani Jahi Thomas, Jamila Aisha Thomas, Summayah Iman Muhammad, Jada Akia Thomas, Amira Jahann Muhammad and Tyler Thomas. He is also survived by six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
