He was predeceased by: his father Theodore John; his wife Jo Knechtges; his daughter Candace Lee Chatfield; his grandson Damian Koch; his great grandchild Alan Clifford Grove Jr.; his great great grandchild Kayden Matthews-Kilpatrick; his sisters, Julie Anas and Peggy Knechtges; and his brothers-in-law, John Papernik and Bob Smith.
He is survived by: his daughters, Vicki Barto (Al), Kim Lowe (John Cochran) and Nicole Payne (Raymond); his grandchildren, Bobbie Jo Kilpatrick (Jason), Richard Barto (Kira), Brandy Ray Grove (Nathan), Eva Sunkle, Kayla Lowe (Tammy), Cherokee, Jordan, Shyanna and JonRay Payne; his sisters, Teddi Smith and Dee Papernik; and his brother-in-law Dan Anas. He is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
