He was predeceased by: his parents, Roland Steel and Gwyneth Steel (Townsend); his former wife Cecilia Sauter; his wife Ceil Steel; and his siblings, Phyllis Higbee and Robert Steel.

He is survived by: his daughter Debi Steel of St. Joseph; and his daughter-in-law Ronna Steel of Jesup, Georgia. He is also survived by six grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
