Carlton G. Wieland Obituary

Carlton George Wieland made friends everywhere he went. He was smart and witty and loved to tell stories. He loved to sing and never forgot a birthday always delivering an unforgettable rendition of "Happy Birthday.". His was devoted husband, father and friend. Carlton passed away on Saturday, November 29th at the age of 81.

He was born in 1944 to Erwin "Dewey" and Nina (Knochel) Wieland and raised on their dairy farm in Kawkawlin. He graduated Handy High School in 1962 and studied agriculture at Michigan State University. Carlton was drafted in 1967 and served in the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam until 1969. He was promoted to Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge.

Carlton married Mary Jane Griffiths on August 4, 1973. They were together until her death on March 10, 2013. He met his partner Rancy Beuthin on Valentine's Day 2015. They married on March 04, 2024.

Carlton is survived by his wife Rancy; children Wrenn (Steve) Johnston, Nick (Nicole) Wieland, Scott (Jodi) Bode; grandchildren David (Kait) Willams, Brianna (Zac) Schisler, Brittnay (Keith) Thurston, Jordan (Sav) Bode, Jacob Bode and Jadyn Bode; great-grandchildren Kolton, Beckett, Blakely, Hawkins, Sage & Wrenlee.

He is also survived by his siblings Rhoda (Emery) Minger, Tom Wieland, Becky Wieland, Dan Wieland, Leon (Jennifer) Wieland and Brian (Charlene) Wieland; brother-in-law Jim Griffiths and several nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and friends. Carlton was pre-deceased by his parents Erwin and Nina Wieland; brothers David, John & Marvin Wieland; Father-in-law Clarence "Griff" Griffiths; Mother-in-law Verna Griffiths, sister-in-laws Christine Griffiths & Kay Tackman; great-nephew Austin Wieland.

Per Carlton's wishes cremation has taken place and his family will hold a memorial celebration in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
