Cheri Lynn Urban Obituary
Cheri Lynn Urban (nee Spencer), age 71, passed away peacefully at home on November 13, 2025, in Au Gres, Michigan. Born on November 15, 1953, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Cheri lived a life marked by resilience, love, and unwavering devotion to her family.
A graduate of. Au Gres-Sims High School, Cheri built her life around the values she held dear-kindness, courage, hope, forgiveness, and generosity of spirit. These principles guided her through every chapter of her journey and left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Cheri and her husband of nearly 52 years, James Urban, shared a marriage shaped by commitment, effort, and enduring love. Together they raised a family that brought them immense joy and pride. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Jason (Christina) Urban of Linden, Tennessee; April (Gregory) Brackett of Carleton, Michigan; Dawn (Urban) Shue of Grayling, Michigan; and James Urban of Omer, Michigan. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren whose lives she touched: Ashley (Walker) Kingan; Jason Urban; Jesse Urban; Benjamin Brackett; Max Brackett; Brittany Urban; Anthony Urban; Bree-Ann (Brandon) Dowd; and Sabrina (Jeffery) Sauer- as well as numerous great-grandchildren who remained a treasured source of light in her later years.
Cheri also leaves behind a cherished extended family including her sister-in-law Jeanette Spencer of Hohenwald, Tennessee; brothers James (Mary) Spencer of Hohenwald and Kenneth (Phyllis) Spencer of Pahrump, Nevada; sister Kathryn Spencer of Oscoda, Michigan; sister-in-law Gail Wrathell of. Au Gres; and brother-in-law Lane Urban of Standish. Her special bond with her nephew Brian and his wife Monique, along with her many other nieces and nephews, brought her great happiness. She was preceded in death by her brother Richard Spencer and brother-in-law Teddy Wrathell.
Cheri found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved sitting outside during warm summer days with her dogs at her side while chatting with family and friends. She was an avid reader of cozy mysteries, also treasuring trips to Tennessee with her daughter to visit her son and grandchildren. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life-she deeply valued studying the Bible alongside her husband.
Among Cheri's many accomplishments was the extraordinary strength she displayed following a major medical diagnosis earlier this year. With fierce determination and an unbreakable spirit, she persevered to be present at her youngest child's wedding-a moment that symbolized love and family unity.
A service celebrating Cheri's life will be held at a later date.
