Douglas S. Benedick Obituary

Douglas S. Benedick, known affectionately as Doug by his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on August 19, 2025. Born on January 15, 1941, in Flint, Michigan, to Stanley and Lena Belle (Beliek) Benedick.

Doug's journey through life began as a young man in Flint, where he graduated from Flint Central High School. He worked at the Flint Board of Education in skilled trades until his retirement.

On June 22, 1962, Doug married the love of his life, Linda Coburn, at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Flint, Michigan. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Shannon, who, along with her husband Rob Monroe, gave Doug the joy of being a grandfather to Aaron (Hunter Glysz) Monroe and Tyler Monroe, who is engaged to Rachel Samuleson. Doug's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was a beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews, who will remember him fondly for his warmth and generosity.

Though he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sharon (Clyde) Thomason and Judy (Bernard) King, Doug's legacy of love and family unity continues to live on through those he left behind.

Doug's zest for life was evident in his diverse interests. After retiring, he moved from Davison to Gladwin, where he could indulge in his love for deer hunting and farming! His adventurous spirit also took him to Fort Pierce, Florida, where he reveled in the joys of deep-sea fishing. Doug and Linda traveled wherever their hearts desired, embracing the freedom of the open road on his motorcycle and the tranquility of living on their boat in the Florida Keys.

The family would like to thank all the people who offered support and compassion through this time.

A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
