Edward W. Hartwick Obituary

Edward "Ed" Wayne Hartwick, a cherished family man, respected veteran, and skilled craftsman, passed away peacefully at his home on September 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 12, 1950, in Standish, Michigan, to the late William and Lois (Ireland) Hartwick, Ed's life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication, and the importance of family.

Ed grew up in the close-knit community of Melita, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed a strong sense of responsibility. After graduating from Standish Sterling High School, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, a period that shaped much of his character and instilled in him a deep sense of patriotism.

Upon returning home, Ed became a valued member of the Laborers Union Local 1191. His dedication to his work was evident in his long and successful career with Hardman Construction of Ludington, Michigan, from which he retired. Ed's work ethic and commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on the many projects he was a part of and the colleagues who had the privilege of working alongside him.

In his retirement, Ed found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid woodworker, creating beautiful pieces that were both functional and artistic. His love for sharing a PBR beer with friends and family was well-known, as were the countless hours he spent working on the family farm with his nephew. These moments, filled with laughter and camaraderie, were the ones he treasured most.

Ed's greatest pride, however, was his family. He is survived by his devoted children, Patti Macauley and Ed (Jackie) Hartwick; his adored grandchildren, Cameron Hartwick, Cody Hartwick, Madelyn Macauley, and Jayden Fair; and the excitement of a great-granddaughter Oaklinn soon to arrive. His siblings, Lee (Denise) Hartwick, Connie (Mike) Sisson, and Patsy Fogarasi, along with several nieces and nephews, will fondly remember his generous spirit and loving nature. Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Hartwick, and his brother-in-law Dale Fogarasi.

To know Ed was to know a man who was generous, handy, and loving. He was the kind of person who would drop everything to lend a helping hand, and his ability to fix just about anything was legendary. His love for his grandchildren and family was immeasurable, and the wisdom he imparted to them will live on for generations.

A celebration of Ed's life with be scheduled at a later date.
