Gordon Wayne Smith Obituary

Gordon Wayne Smith, 69, "Wayne" was born 12-11-1955 in Highland Park, MI, loving, husband, father, grandfather and much more to many passed away from complications of COPD on 6-5-2025. Wayne was the son of the late Gordon Smith and Anne (Turner) Rohlf. Gordon married Peggy LaBean in a shotgun wedding on February 4th, 1974. Together they shared 51 years of marriage. Wayne served in the 82nd Airborne Division during 1973-1974 and received an honorable discharge. Wayne was a welder/fabricator for over 40 years of his career teaching many young men the trade until his retirement as a machine maintenance worker at Mistequay, before retiring in 2020.

Wayne loved providing for his family which gave him purpose. He was definitely a family man and adored his daughters and wife. He was their hero. He loved teaching his girls how to fish, hunt and work on automobiles.

Wayne was an avid outdoorsman who loved to just get in the car and go explore new places in Michigan. Gordon also loved spending time with his family especially talking about his Detroit Lions and Michigan Wolverines.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 51 years and his three daughters, Tricia (Jason) Scoles of Bay City, Jackie (Justin) Smith of Standish, and Stefinie (Louis) Hahn of Sterling. Gordon had 4 grandchildren who he adored, Hunter Raymond, Hanah Selman, and Nolan and Austin Scoles. He also had 2 great-grandchildren Ari'lynn and Thomas. Gordon is also survived by 2 nephews Jerry (Dixie) Cash of Saginaw, and Edward (Kim) Rohlf of Roseville and 2 nieces Tanya Bolesky of Standish and Lydia (Ryan) Dewald of Omer.

Gordon is preceded in death by his parents and his son Wayne Allen Smith, mother and father-in-law Marge Spitler and Louis LaBean, sisters Donna and Carol, one brother Carl, and sister-in-law Kathy Shirkey.

Per Wayne's request cremation has taken place. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home-Standish Chapel.
