James C. Wick Obituary

Jim, age 96, passed away Saturday September 12, 2026 at his home following a brief illness. "A very humble and kind man who thought of others before himself". He was born in Farmington Township on January 7, 1930 to the late Fred & Agnes (Henning) Wick. He graduated from Northville High School and was drafted shortly after into the army during the Korean War. He married the former Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Schomberger on May 1, 1954, in Plymouth, Michigan, she survives him after 72 years which was blessed with a loving family. Children Suzanne (Jim) Stevens, Daniel Wick, and Gregory (Maryanne) Wick; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. His siblings Fred Wick and Shirley Mapes. He was preceded in death by a grandson Bryan Wick, sisters Joyce (Bob) Schronce and Marie (Bill) Holman, brother Tom (Kaye) Wick, sister-in-law Jeannette Wick and a brother-in-law Ted Mapes.

Jim retired from Rawsonville Ford Motor Plant, Belleville Michigan. Jim and Betty moved to Lake Ann and then to Sugar Springs enjoying their retirement. Faithful members of Christ the King Lutheran Church of Gladwin. Throughout his life, Jim was known for being an avid outdoorsman, history buff (known as a walking history book), always a gentleman but most of all a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone he met. He devoted much of his time to hunting and fishing, traveling acrossed the state with Betty where they shared a passion for rock hunting on the shorelines of the Great Lakes. Together with the stones they created beautiful birdhouses and other works of art. His greatest joy was taking the children and grandchildren camping and sharing his knowledge of the outdoors, where they traveled to all but three states.

Funeral services will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church with inurnment at Nester Township Cemetery. The day and time will be announced later. Arrangements are entrusted to Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home-Gladwin Chapel.
