James H. Wood Obituary
James H. Wood, affectionately known as "Woody" to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, at My Michigan Medical Center in Midland, MI, with his loving family by his side. Born on February 16, 1954, in Ionia, Michigan, to the late Harry and Loeta (Tack) Wood, Woody's life was a testament to the power of kindness, creativity, and community.
Woody grew up in the Ionia area, where his warm personality and friendly demeanor were evident from a young age. He was a brother to his three sisters, Barbara & Bob Wichtner, Brenda & Kevin Hecht-Paige, and Sue & Larry Fernholz also, several nieces and nephews.
After spending many years in Northern Minnesota, Woody made his mark as a skilled painter and stainer, a profession that not only showcased his creative talents but also allowed him to form lasting friendships. Upon retiring, he returned to Gladwin, Michigan, to be closer to his family, bringing with him the same spirit of generosity and camaraderie that had endeared him to so many throughout his life.
Woody was an active member of the Secord Eagles, where he volunteered his time and energy to the betterment of the community. His love for the lake was profound, and he could often be found driving his golf cart along Lakeshore Drive, stopping to socialize with neighbors and soak in the beauty of his surroundings. Woody's presence was a bright light in the lives of those who knew him, and his absence will be deeply felt.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Woody will remember him as a kind soul, always ready with a friendly word and a creative solution. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the countless memories he created with all who were lucky enough to cross his path.
Honoring his wishes cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.
