Joann M. Hayati Obituary

At the age of 92, Joann Marie Butcher Hayati was called into eternal life on July 27th, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on July 10th, 1934 in South Lyon, Michigan to the late Thelma and Abraham Butcher, Joann was one of ten children. The love her family shared together on their farm on Forrester Road—crowded, noisy, and unwavering—was a love she carried with her for the rest of her life. On January 21, 1956 she married Hossein Hayati and together, they became the loving parents of Davud, Cyrus, and Donald. Hoss and Joann "Josy" were happily married for 56 years before his passing in 2012. Joann measured her life not in accomplishments but in the family she raised and cared for, and those who knew her knew her warmth and devotion to the people she called her own.

Along with her commitment to her family, Joann was fiercely dedicated to the Methodist church. She worked for The Christian Advocate newspaper for 20 years, served as a leader in United Methodist Women, and volunteered whenever she could. She enjoyed knitting, cross-stitching, playing cards.

Joann is survived by her sons Davud (Dee), Donald (Catherine), and Cyrus; her grandchildren Casidy, Stephanie, Benjamin, Donny, and Ellie; her great-grandchildren Chase, Caley, Brandon, Brody, Braylynn, Evelyn, Norah, Penelope, and Annie June; her sister Jane and brother Ed. She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Rivertown Funeral Chapel. Family and friends are invited to attend. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the memorial service beginning at noon.

Joann loved her family with her whole heart, and we loved her with ours. What she gave us doesn't end here, and what she has been given will last forever.
