Leonard P. "Bud" Bashaw Jr., passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on October 18, 1948, in Omer, Michigan, to the late Leonard P. Sr. and Geraldine (Fisher) Bashaw, Bud was a man whose presence brought comfort and joy to all who knew him.
Bud was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Cathy Ann Lees, on July 29, 1972, at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Omer, Michigan. Their loving union was blessed with three wonderful children: Michael "Mike" Bashaw, Matthew "Matt" Bashaw, and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bashaw, and a cherished grandson, Reece Bashaw. Bud's life was further enriched by the companionship of his sisters, Judy Ziaya and Jody (Ed) Holland. He was preceded in death by his sister Jan Bowman and brother-in-law Stan Ziaya.
A proud graduate of Arenac Eastern High School, Bud furthered his education at Michigan Tech Institute, where he earned a degree in Drafting. His professional career was marked by dedication and excellence, culminating in his retirement from the State of Michigan Department of Transportation as a Draftsman. Bud's passion for safety and education led him to become a certified Michigan motorcycle safety instructor, sharing his knowledge and love for riding with countless individuals.
Following his retirement, Bud joined forces with his wife Cathy at Soldan's, now known as Feeders Pet Supply, where he continued to apply his jack-of-all-trades skills. His work ethic and ability to fix anything were second only to his loving nature.
Bud's interests were as diverse as his talents. An avid motorcyclist, he found solace in the quietness of the outdoors and the freedom of the open road. His hands were rarely still, as he was always working on a project or lending a helping hand to those in need.
Those who knew Bud will remember him as a handy man, whose gentle spirit and kind heart left a lasting impression. He was a pillar of strength for his family, a reliable friend, and a mentor to many. Bud's legacy of love, hard work, and generosity will continue to live on through the lives of those he touched.
Honoring Leonard's wishes cremation has taken place with no services planned.
