Paul Douglas Dake Obituary

Paul Douglas Dake, age 85, passed away on May 9, 2026. He was born on February 25, 1941, in Livingston County, Michigan, and lived a life marked by quiet strength, steady devotion, and the kind of dependable kindness that left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Paul married Jean Ann Templin in Pinconning, Michigan, on May 5, 1990, at the Baptist Church. Their marriage was a meaningful part of his life, and together they shared many years filled with family, companionship, and the routines of everyday life that become treasured memories over time.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Laura Dake, his son, Kevin Ruse, and grandchildren Jeffrie Smith and Alexis Dake, and his sister, Elaine Sinclair. He was the son of William and Ruth (Nichols) Dake, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean Ann Dake, and by his sons, Brian and Michael Ruse.

Paul graduated from Pinconning High School and carried the values of hard work and perseverance with him throughout his life. In November 1961, he joined the United States Army, where he served honorably and became a proud Vietnam War veteran. His service to his country remained an important part of his identity, and he carried that experience with dignity and respect.

Following his military service, Paul worked as a mechanic at Schaffer Auto for many years. He was known for being handy, thoughtful, and gentle, and those qualities served him well in both his work and his daily life. He had a natural ability to fix what was broken, whether it was a vehicle, a project around the house, or a problem that needed a calm and steady hand.

In his free time, Paul enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR, following Tigers baseball, and taking great pride in keeping his yard up. He found satisfaction in simple pleasures and in doing things well. His yard reflected the care and attention he gave to the things that mattered to him, and his interests brought him enjoyment and connection with others who shared them.

Paul will be remembered for the steady presence he brought into the lives of others. He was thoughtful in his words, handy in his work, and gentle in his manner. He faced life with humility and strength, and he left behind memories that will be treasured by his family and friends. His life was one of service, loyalty, and quiet dedication.

Honoring Paul's wishes cremation has taken place with a celebration of Paul's life to scheduled at a later date.
