He is survived by: his wife Carol; his children, Douglas (Deborah Lane) of Kingsford, MI, Victoria (Joshua Kaplewski) of Florence, WI and Alexandra (Bart Kirsenlohr) of Kingsford, MI; his grandchildren, Russell Sage, Olivia Sage, Isaac Sage, Natalie Kaplewski, Matthew Kirsenlohr and Edmund Kirsenlohr; his siblings, Karen (late Joseph Shovels) of Flushing, MI and Jonathon Sage of Grand Portage, MN; his niece Kathleen Miller (Shovels) of Henderson, MI; and his nephew Joseph Shovels, Jr. of Oakland Park, FL..
Ron was recognized for his contributions to Lake Superior Geology when he received the S. S. Goldich Medal from the Institute on Lake Superior Geology.
