He was predeceased by: his parents, Anna Olivia and Herman William Burger; his wife Barbara Ann (Davis); his son Jerome Edward Burger II; and his grandsons, Jerod Burger, Jerome Edward Burger III and Joseph E. Martinez.

He is survived by: his children, Anne Marie Arkin (Raymond), Theresa Martinez (Enrique), Suzanne Burger, Regina Hipple (Robert), Matthew Burger, Mark Burger (Dina) and Steven Burger. He is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Friday, August 28th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Tiffany Chapel of the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home (3232 W Saginaw St, Lansing, MI 48917). A rosary was held on Friday, August 28th 2026 at 6:30 PM at the same location. The lying in state was held on Saturday, August 29th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. Gerard Catholic Church (4437 W Willow Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, August 29th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
