He is survived by: his children, Jeremiah Kates, Sr., Gail Owens, Martin Kates, Kecia Sarratt (James) and Aleane Kates; and his grandchildren, Jeremiah Kates, Jr., Jamerra Kates, DeQarius Kates, Keivon Kates, Andrew Harris, Devaughn Kates, Shelby Kates, Simone Kates, Devon Kates, Jayln Kates, Martaz Kates, Marreona Kates, Alyssa Kates, Jdecka Adams, Octavia Adams, Latavis Adams, Taneisha Kates, Renita Morris, Jamie Kates, Ieisha Kates, Ranada Tanner (Quinton), James Sarratt (Samantha), Chelsea Carrie and Damon Kates. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The military honors will be held on Tuesday, October 21st 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens (4444 W Grand River Ave, Lansing, MI 48906).
