Mary Kay Bean Obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mary Kay Bean (Batcheller) on Wednesday the 6th of May 2020.
Mary Kay was born on the 14th of July 1949 in Milbank, South Dakota to Francis & Dorothy (Trapp) Batcheller. Mary Kay was raised in Milbank and graduated from Milbank High School in 1967; she went on to study Medicine at the University of South Dakota. Upon moving to California she continued her studies at the University of Santa Barbara and began work as an Ophthalmic Assistant.
Travelling was one of Mary Kay's most favorite things to do which is why it was no surprise to anyone that she travelled Europe and ended up in the UK, where she worked as an Ophthalmic Assistant at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital.
In addition to travelling, Mary Kay had a passion for music and experiencing the delights of life. She was always up for a new adventure. She would attend as many music concerts as she could, and music was always playing in her house, much to the neighbour's dismay. There was no stopping Mary Kay when she had her mind set on something.
Whether it be getting to the front row of a Rolling Stones concert without the front row ticket to defying doctor's orders to rest after a back surgery in order to climb a mountain to go geode hunting. Mary Kay lived life to its fullest, making every day count. Mary Kay's personality was infectious; she was the type of person who lit up a room whenever she entered.
She was the life and soul of any party or gathering. She had a knack for making you feel like you knew each other for ages and you were long lost friends even if you had only met 5 minutes before. Mary Kay was an avid gem and mineral collector. She had a long standing membership with the Central Michigan Lapidary and Mineral Society.
She upheld with great honour various roles including, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and Presidency. She also served on the Committee Chair. Mary Kay will be forever remembered by partner Wayne, daughter Lindsey (Alex), grandchildren Hayden and Hudson; brother Tom (Susan) and family as well as numerous life long friends across the world.
A celebration of Mary Kay's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Central Michigan Lapidary and Mineral Society in memory of Mary Kay Bean.
