He was predeceased by : his grandchildren, James E. Jones III, Shamari Milton, Jennifer P. Samuels and James H. Bransford; and his siblings, Beulah Phillips (Harrison), Mattie Mitchell (William), Annie R. Newton, Martha Hoarsley, James R. (Rosa Lee), Jerry (Doll), Ernest and Curtis Embry (Rose).

He is survived by : his wife Bernice Embry; his children, Diane Bransford, Vivian Bodiford (Jimmiel), Sandra Embry, Anthony, Ronald (Sheila), Ulysses Jr. (Barbara), Kent (Renee), Marvin, Eric (Lynette) and Jeffrey Embry; and his brother Robert Jones. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren.
