He was predeceased by: his father Walter Schmitz; and his granddaughter Katie. He is survived by: his mother Helen Schmitz (Sanders) of Lake Orion; his wife Connie J. Simpson; his children, Barbara Beach (Allen), Nancy Kalena (Dave), Richard Traicoff (Tina), Jonathan Schmitz and Jennifer Kindt; his grandchildren, Jami, Michael, Amanda, Andrew, Alex, Zachery and Samantha; his great grandchildren, Everette, Coleman, Gavin, Jacob and Jared; and his siblings, Polly Gumino, Tyler Schmitz and Nancy Tague.
