He was predeceased by: his parents, Ray Mathews and Cora Mathews; his brother David Mathews; and his sister-in-law Vicki Mathews. He is survived by: his wife Joan E. Mathews; his children, Phillip Mathews (Christine), Janette Syler (Al), Julie Harrison (Larry) and Steven Mathews (Cherie); his grandchildren, Cora Parker (Zak), Meghan Foote (Scott), Christine Lefere (Patrick), Nicholas Smith (Monique), Elijah Huber, Elayna Huber, Alexander Mathews, Bryce Mathews, Blake Mathews and Cameron Mathews; his great grandchildren, Abel Smith, Kenneth Smith, Cole Foote and Hailey Foote; and his sister Dolores Hinshaw (James).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the Leslie United Methodist Church or the Mason Lion's Club.
