He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Onyon and Eunice Onyon (Willis); his daughter Jodi Rupersburg; and his siblings-in-law, Tony Bak, Sue Bak and Mary Bak.

He is survived by: his wife Agnes Hess; his son Kevin Hess (Rhonda); his stepdaughters, Colleen Chapman (Adam) and Deborah Pletzer (Ken); his son-in-law Jeff Rupersburg; his siblings, Tom Hess, Kathy Brace and Janet Gaskell; his stepsiblings, Tom Hess, Barb Campbell and Sue Power; his brother-in-law John Bak; his grandchildren, Jennifer Kandler, Emily Pletzer, Andrew Pletzer, Dillon Hess (Emma), Gina Hess, Shane Hess and Jamie Rupersburg; and his great grandchildren, Presleigh Kandler, Mason and Parker Hess. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorials in memory of Dave may be made to Eva's Place of Sandusky or Project Blessing in Lexington.
