He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Sylvester and Estella Sylvester (Revord); his son-in-law Brent Veitengruber; and his brothers, Bernard, Donald, Henry, Lyle and Thomas.
He is survived by: his wife Sally (Steinhoff); his children, Tina Short (Marc), Tanya Bushong (Brett) and Thad Sylvester; his grandchildren, Tara Satkowiak and Daniel Short (Tonya); his great grandchildren, Lucas Satkowiak and Violet Short; and his siblings, Delores Wojda, Gerald Sylvester, June Meyer, Marilyn Dumont and Diana Bodrie.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the family or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
