Wayne P. DeHate Obituary

Wayne Paul DeHate, age 81, of Linwood, Michigan, passed away on October 13, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love and memory of the life he built with his family and friends.

Wayne was born on February 14, 1945, in Bay City, Michigan, and he carried the values of hard work, loyalty, and kindness throughout his life. He was the son of the late Paul and Dorothy (Kelpinski) DeHate and grew up with a strong sense of family that remained with him always. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Jaskevich.

Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years , Patricia (Siuda) DeHate. He was a proud father to his son, Kevin (Jodi) DeHate, and his daughters, Kristy (Jeff) DeHate and Kerry Walczak. He was a loving grandfather to Logan, Luke, and Lexi Walczak, and he was especially happy to know that a great-grandson was on the way. He is also survived by his brother, Alan (Jana) DeHate, along with many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

Wayne spent many years working at General Motors, where he retired after a long and dedicated career. He was known for being dependable and hardworking, and those qualities were reflected in everything he did. Wayne also served in the US Army. He also gave generously of his time and energy to the community as a founding member of the Garfield Township Fire Department, and he remained active with the department for many years. His commitment to service and his willingness to help others left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.

In addition to his work and community involvement, Wayne enjoyed a life filled with simple pleasures and creative pursuits. He had a deep appreciation for wood carving and took pride in the things he could make with his hands. He enjoyed spending time at the cabin, where he could relax and enjoy the outdoors. He was a member of the Tri City Wood Carvers and the American Legion 239 in Crump, where he found fellowship and shared interests with others. Wayne was the kind of man who could fix what was broken, create something beautiful, and offer a kind word all at the same time.
