He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Holwerda and Jennie Holwerda; and his siblings, Edward Holwerda and Fran Vandenberg. He is survived by: his wife Geraldine "Gerri" Holwerda; his children, Nancy Courser (Ron), Cherie Veen, Paul Holwerda (Susan) and Mark Holwerda (Linda); his stepchildren, Bryan Ortowski (Jackie) and Stacy Thomas (Robert); his grandchildren, Nichelle Wetzel (Josh), Cassandra Thomas, Jacob Thomas and Amanda Pennington; his great grandchildren, Ryleigh Wetzel, Max Wetzel and Ryder Pennington; and his close friends, Paul, Joanne, Karen, Brad and Ellie. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.
